The Full Story

The Ministry of Education and Youth will be tabling the reports from the Education Transformation Oversight Committee (ETOC) in the House of Representatives.

ETOC has been charged with monitoring the implementation of recommendations contained in the report of the Professor Orlando Patterson-chaired Jamaica Education Transformation Commission (JETC).

Speaking during Thursday’s (March 7) meeting of the Standing Finance Committee of the House of Representatives, whose members are reviewing the 2024/25 Estimates of Expenditure, Portfolio Minister, Hon. Fayval Williams, pointed out that the public is being updated on the progress of implementation of the recommendations.

She advised that ETOC will host a press conference on March 13.

“I have no problem tabling the reports, but they are currently available on our website as well. We’ve had at least five or six rounds of reporting already to the public,” she noted.

In October 2023, ETOC reported that work had commenced on 93 of the 365 recommendations contained in the report.

ETOC also launched a robust $34-million communication plan, dubbed Transforming Education for National Development (TREND), which aims to sensitise the public about the transformation process.
