The 2014/2015 Estimates of Expenditure  will be tabled in the House of Representatives on Thursday, April 3, by  Minister of Finance and Planning, Dr. the Hon. Peter Phillips.

The tabling will follow the State Opening of Parliament, when the Governor-General, His Excellency the Most Hon. Sir Patrick Allen, will deliver the Throne Speech outlining the Government’s priorities for the new fiscal year.

This was disclosed by Leader of Government Business in the House, Hon. Phillip Paulwell, during a sitting of the Lower House on February 4.

He also informed that the Standing Finance Committee will meet from April 8 to 10 to consider the Estimates.

Mr. Paulwell said that the Budget Debate will be opened by the Finance Minister on April 17, and will be followed by the Opposition Spokesperson on Finance, Mr. Audley Shaw, on April 22.

On April 23 there will be presentations by a member of the Government and an Opposition member.

Leader of the Opposition, Mr. Andrew Holness, will make his contribution to the debate on April 24, and Prime Minister the Most Hon. Portia Simpson Miller will make her presentation on April 29.

The budget debate will be closed by Dr. Phillips on April 30.

Mr. Paulwell  said he will be meeting with the Leader of Opposition Business in the House, Mr. Derrick Smith, to deal with the structure of the Sectoral Debate, “that can be far more relevant to the Jamaican people and to (generate) greater interest.”
