ESET to Present First Report to Cabinet by September

The first report on the work being done by the recently appointed Electricity Sector Enterprise Team (ESET) will come to Cabinet in September.

This according to ESET Chairman Dr. Vin Lawrence who updated members of the National Partnership Council at its first anniversary retreat held on July 17 at Jamaica House.

Dr. Lawrence told the Partnership Council that the ESET has already held seven meetings and was engaged in preparing a rapid assessment least cost expansion plan which will outline recommendations beyond satisfying the current electricity needs of the country.

The ESET Chairman said that with the existing procurement process coming to an end next Monday with the revocation of the EWI Licence, the ESET will assume full authority in executing its mandate.

In the coming weeks, ESET will be engaged in a series of consultations with the relevant agencies such as the OUR, JPSCO, the Ministry Energy and Mining, Independent Power Producers and others, with a view to finalize its first deliverable to the Cabinet, by September.

The meeting of the Partnership Council was attended by Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller, and Cabinet Ministers, Hon Peter Phillips, Minister of Finance and Planning, Hon. Peter Bunting, Minister of National Security, Hon. Mark Golding, Minister of Justice, Hon. Sandrea Falconer, Minister of Information, Hon. Anthony Hylton, Minister of Industry Investment and Commerce and Hon. Phillip Paulwell, Minister of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining along with representatives of Opposition, private sector, civil society and the unions.

Specially invited guest at the first anniversary retreat was Former Prime Minister, Hon. Bruce Golding, who addressed the meeting.

The Partnership Council was established following the signing of the agreement on July 30, last year.
