The Full Story

The Public Sector Debate Competition returns for its fifth staging this year, highlighting innovative thinking and practical solutions for transforming service delivery in the public sector.

An initiative of the Transformation Implementation Unit (TIU), the contest engages public-sector workers in meaningful dialogue on transformation and national and global issues. It is staged in partnership with the Jamaican Association for Debating and Empowerment Limited.

The 2026 competition will be launched in April and will run until June.

With the March 27 registration deadline approaching, Communication Lead at the TIU, Anneke Clarke, is encouraging ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) to submit their entries.

She said all public-sector workers are eligible to participate.

“The competition provides a unique platform for public officers to showcase their critical thinking, research and public-speaking skills, while contributing to discussions on how to improve service delivery and transform the public service,” Mrs. Clarke told JIS News.

She noted that this year’s staging promises to be even more exciting, with an expanded prize package and additional awards.

“The Public Sector Debate Competition is more than a contest of ideas; it is a platform that highlights the innovation, talent and solution-oriented thinking that exist across the public service. The competition also encourages participants to examine practical solutions for improving service delivery and advancing transformation across government,” she added.

Mrs. Clarke said that the TIU is proud of the success of the competition over the past four stagings and that it continues to foster healthy debate, camaraderie and innovation within the public sector.

Each government entity may register one team comprising three members and two reserves, and all teams are required to participate in at least one training session.

Interested MDAs are encouraged to complete the registration form on the TIU’s website at www.publicsectortransformation.gov.jm.
