OCHO RIOS – Education Minister, Hon. Andrew Holness, is calling on Jamaicans to embrace a new vision of a successful Jamaica with the education system at the centre of that mental image.

“(Education) is where we start the process of changing minds. That is where it starts; building the self-esteem of our youngsters that they believe that they can achieve,” Minister Holness said.

He was addressing the 20th anniversary banquet for the Optimist Club of Ocho Rios held on Saturday March 26 at the Almond Tree Restaurant in the resort town.

Minister Holness, in his presentation, commended the support of the Optimist Movement to the education system, citing the service group’s invaluable contribution to the development of infrastructure at the basic and primary levels.

“We have over 790 primary institutions and quite a bit of them are over 100 years old and would have outlived their useful life. So your assistance in helping the Government is most appreciated,” Minister Holness said.

He further urged the young people to be optimistic in their pursuits and seek to do their best in helping to build a better Jamaica.
