The Full Story

Eligible residents of Cooper’s Pen in Trelawny will receive Government-funded relocation grants to support a smooth and dignified relocation process.

Prime Minister, Dr. the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, said the Government is engaging residents to explain the relocation arrangements and ensure they are fully informed about the process.

He made the disclosure during the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Kingston Two (K2) Apartments at Bournemouth Gardens in Kingston on Wednesday (October 21).

Dr. Holness advised that residents who qualify for support would have special access to nearby lands identified by the Government.

He noted that the survey has been completed, the lots have been subdivided, and procurement has commenced for the installation of roads, water supply and other basic amenities.

The Prime Minister emphasised that the lands would not be provided free of cost but that various arrangements would be made to facilitate fair and reasonable access for residents.

“We will provide various modalities, whether it is through outright purchase, some form of lease arrangement, or other forms of contractual arrangements,” he said, while urging the residents to pay close attention to information provided by the relevant ministry.

Dr. Holness stressed that the initiative is intended to establish a model that can be replicated in other communities across the island.
