Elderly Residents of St. Mary Treated
September 24, 2009The Full Story
Members of the St. Mary Golden Agers Clubs called on elderly residents of the parish on Monday (Sept. 21) presenting them with gift packages and spending quality time with them.
The visits were part of National Senior Citizens Week observances from September 20 to 26.
During the day, the club members shared a meal of local fare with the seniors and engaged them in lively discussion about their life experiences, which included many laughs.
Acting Regional Co-ordinator for the National Senior Citizens Council for the parish, Tait White told JIS News that special focus was placed on seniors over 90 years of age, and noted that a 108-year old was specially recognised.
She said that the visits were to acknowledge the contribution of the seniors, and to assure them that they were valued by the society.
Noting that all 31 active golden age clubs in the parish were involved in the visits, she said that the day was meticulously planned to ensure that the elders derived satisfaction from the experience.
Ms. Tait thanked the many clubs that participated and urged Jamaicans to support the country’s seniors.
