The Full Story

The Jamaica Education Transformation Commission (JETC) is to lead an institutional review of the HEART NSTA/Trust and to recommend changes to improve the entity’s effectiveness.

Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, made the disclosure during the virtual launch of the ‘The Reform of Education in Jamaica 2021 Report’ on Thursday (January 13).

He said that the review “will look at the demand side of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) – considering how to enable the Jamaican TVET system to better meet the needs of young people, employers, government policy priorities and the economy; as well as the supply side – how to build capacity and capability”.

The Prime Minister said that the review process, which is expected to be completed in approximately six months, will include options for institutional change and reform of the HEART NSTA/Trust.

JTEC was established to comprehensively review and assess Jamaica’s education system, including its structure, operation, and processes and to recommend an action plan for further transformation.

The ‘Reform of Education in Jamaica 2021 Report’ was developed by the JETC. It is a blueprint for the establishment of a comprehensive strategy to improve student performance and educational productivity across the sector.
