Minister of Education, Skills, Youth and Information, Senator Dr. the Hon. Dana Morris Dixon, has underscored the vital role of alumni groups in shaping the future of education and the success of students.
“Alumni groups are very important partners of the Government and especially us in the Ministry of Education. We can’t do it alone,” she said.
The Minister emphasised that while the Government continues to invest in education, the involvement of past students adds a unique and powerful dimension.
She was addressing an alumni engagement visit to St. Andrew Technical High School on Tuesday (April 14), in commemoration of the institution’s 65th anniversary, under the theme ‘Inspiring Change: Reshape, Realign, Refocus’.

Dr. Morris Dixon reasoned that alumni do not only provide financial support but serve as living proof of what students can achieve.
Their presence, the Minister noted, carries a message that goes beyond words.
“When they see people like you, when they see what you have achieved, they feel that ‘I can do it too’. It’s absolutely important. Many of our students in many of our schools, they’ve never had the opportunity to meet someone who was successful and who went to their schools, sat in the same rooms, and played on the same play field. It helps them to dream big. Even if you don’t do anything else, just being here, being around them, means so much to them,” she explained.
The Minister recognised the commitment of alumni who returned to celebrate and support their alma mater, despite competing priorities.
“We appreciate what you are doing and the sacrifice you’re making to be here. Don’t think it’s lost on these children,” Dr. Morris Dixon said.
