The Full Story

Chief Executive Officer of e-Learning Jamaica Company Limited (e-LJam), Andrew Lee, says the organisation remains steadfast in its mission to integrate technology in public schools across Jamaica.

The CEO told JIS News that primary schools will continue to be the organisation’s main focus.

“[We are] committed to ensuring that our education system continues to benefit from technology integration, so that our young people are fully equipped to thrive in a technology-driven world,” Mr. Lee said.

“We will continue to roll out laptops, charging carts, interactive panels, tablets and, of course, the micro:bit device, which is used in our Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) programme,” he added.

Last year, e-LJam distributed more than 8,000 devices to schools islandwide. This included over 3,000 laptops under the agency’s Laptop for Primary Schools Initiative.

In addition, the organisation also provided interactive panels and charging carts, which are used to power and store the devices supplied to schools.

More than 600 vouchers were also issued to teachers, enabling them to redeem laptops to support the teaching and learning process.

Mr. Lee noted that as technology continues to evolve, e-LJam is positioning itself to keep pace with the needs of schools.

The organisation plans to continue replenishing and upgrading devices on a cycle, to ensure that students and teachers always have access to modern, reliable tools.

e-Learning Jamaica Company Limited (e-LJam), an agency of the Ministry of Education, Skills, Youth and Information, is mandated to integrate technology into the island’s education system.
