The Full Story

Member of Parliament for Eastern Portland and State Minister for National Security, Dr. Donald Rhodd, has donated $20,000 to the Portland 4-H Clubs to help offset the cost of the recently held youth expo and fair.
Councillor Dexter Rowland of the Portland Parish Council made the presentation on Dr. Rhodd’s behalf, during a meeting of the Portland 4-H Clubs Leaders Association last Friday (June 22). The donation is the latest in a series of assistance initiatives by Dr. Rhodd to the parish’s 4-H movement.
In presenting the cheque, Mr. Rowland lauded the movement for its exemplary role in shaping the lives of the young people of Jamaica, and encouraged the members to make the best use of the opportunities provided.
He noted that there are many negatives influences in the society to which young people can easily fall victim, but expressed confidence that the work being carried out by the 4-H organization will continue to play a major role in the creation of a better Jamaican society, which all well-thinking citizens desire to see.
Angella Smith, President of the Portland 4-H Leadership Council, who accepted the donation, expressed gratitude to Dr. Rhodd for his kind gesture, and urged other individuals and organizations in the parish to emulate his example.
