Dr. Hughes Takes Over as Financial Secretary Tuesday

Dr. Wesley Hughes will officially take up his new position as Financial Secretary, in the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service, on Tuesday (September 1).
Dr. Hughes served as Director General of the Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ), from 1995 until his reassignment. He succeeds former Financial Secretary, Sharon Crooks, who has taken up a position as an advisor on Caribbean issues to the Executive Director of the World Bank.
His is one of two senior civil service appointments made in August by Governor-General, His Excellency the Most Hon. Sir Patrick Allen, acting on the advice of the Public Service Commission. The other is that of outgoing Chief Technical Director of the Public Sector Modernisation Unit in the Cabinet Office, Hillary Alexander, who has been appointed Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy and Mining, replacing Marcia Forbes who resigned in August.
A third senior Civil Service appointment which takes effect on Tuesday, is that of outgoing Director General in the Office of the Prime Minister, Dr. Jean Dixon, who takes over as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health. Dr. Dixon, whose appointment was made on the advice of the Prime Minister, the Hon. Bruce Golding, replaces Dr. Grace Allen-Young, who has retired.
