The Ministry of Health & Wellness is advising the public that vector control activities — including fogging, larviciding, and community inspections — is likely to be temporarily disrupted, following the passage of Hurricane Melissa.
With the anticipated significant increase in the mosquito population post event, members of the public are encouraged to stock up on repellant to protect themselves from mosquito bites. They should also:
- Wear protective clothing such as long sleeves and pants.
- Install screens on windows and doors.
- And increase their vigilance in identifying and destroying mosquito-breeding sites by, among other things, punching holes into old cans and covering water drums.
The Ministry will resume full vector control operations as soon as it is safe to do so.
