The Government is to spend US$4 million on the digitisation of vital records at the Registrar General’s Department (RGD), the repository for all records of births, marriages, deaths and deed polls.

This follows the Cabinet’s approval of the award of a contract for the digitisation of vital records consultancy to Fujitsu Caribbean (Jamaica) Limited.

Minister without Portfolio in the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) with responsibility for Information, Hon. Robert Morgan, made the disclosure at Wednesday’s (February 9) post-Cabinet press briefing.

He revealed that Cabinet also approved the award of a contract for the provision of blank certified copies of vital records (security paper) for a period of three years, in the amount of US$614,250 to Veridos GmbH.

In other technology-related agreements, Mr. Morgan noted that Cabinet also gave its approval for the award of a contract for the Renewal of Microsoft Enrolment for Education Solutions (EES) in the amount of US$1 million to Inova Solutions Limited.

In addition, Cabinet approved the award of a contract by e-Learning Jamaica Company Limited (e-LJam) to Royale Computers and Accessories Limited for an amount not exceeding US$2.8 million, for the provision of 13,500 tablets.

In other types of contracts, Minister Morgan said: “Cabinet approved the award of a follow-on contract for the procurement of 200,000 blank passports for the existing “Version 2013” design, in the amount of US$1 million to the Canadian Bank Note Company Limited.”

He also revealed that a contract in the amount of J$114.89 million has been awarded to Bell Safety Limited for the procurement of Protective Clothing for 320 firefighters of the Jamaica Fire Brigade (JFB).
