The Order of Jamaica will be conferred on Desmond Blades at King’s House tomorrow, May 12.
Through his long career in business, Mr, Blades made a significant contribution to the Jamaican economy, especially in the areas of food processing and food distribution. He is best known for his contribution to business with the success of Facey Commodity and the Seprod Group of Companies. He is the Chairman of both.
Mr. Blades is also highly regarded as a volunteer worker, lending his expertise in several areas of national life, including: Council member, Bureau of Standards; patron, the National Food and Nutrition Co-ordinating committee; Chairman, United Way of Jamaica; Director, Jamaica Chamber of Commerce (JCC); Chairman of the JCC’s Tourism and Environment Committee; and Commodore, the Royal Jamaica Yacht Club. He has served on the boards of several committees including the Kingston Restoration Committee and the Century Club of the University of the West Indies.
Mr. Blades was born in Barbados and migrated to Jamaica in 1961.
