The Full Story

Real estate practitioners are being urged to participate in an upcoming webinar, organised by the Real Estate Board (REB), on ensuring compliance with the Data Protection Act (DPA), 2020.

The legislation, which takes effect December 1, seeks to protect the privacy and personal information of citizens.

The virtual information session has been set for November 8 on the Microsoft Teams online platform.

Chief Executive Officer of the REB, Phillip Chambers, told JIS News that the webinar is open to all real estate practitioners, free of cost.

“The primary objective is to bring the industry up to speed with the requirements of the pending DPA, and from a regulatory perspective we want to ensure that our practitioners are compliant,” he said.

Mr. Chambers noted that the session is being offered at no cost to allow as many individuals as possible to participate.

“It is imperative that our dealers, developers and salesmen understand the requirements under the DPA and how compliance under this Act will impact compliance under the Real Estate (Dealers and Developers) Act. It is absolutely important for your business continuity and, overall, your continued participation in the real estate industry,” the CEO said.

Nearly 300 professionals across the island have already signed up for the webinar and more persons are being encouraged to join the discussion session.

Interested practitioners can register on the Board’s website by November 7.
