The St. Mary branch of the National Council for Senior Citizens (NCSC) will be hosting a Cultural Day for senior citizens on Wednesday, June 23, on the grounds of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, in Port Maria, St Mary.
The event, which is held annually, will see seniors from over 30 senior citizens groups across St. Mary participating.
Parish Organiser for the NCSC, Tate Dillon-White, told JIS News that the cultural day, which will be held under the theme: ‘Our Seniors, Our Nation Builders’, will highlight the creative talents of the seniors.
The function will include the mounting of exhibits, such as art and craft, and local dishes made by the senior citizens and volunteers.
Mrs. Dillon-White said that an “inter-generation” concert, which will be held in the afternoon, is expected to be fun-filled, and will showcase cultural performances by the senior citizens, as well as students from schools across the parish.
Other agencies expected to participate in the Cultural Day are the Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA), the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission and the St. Mary Fire Department.
