Chief Executive Officer of the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH), Dwayne Francis, has commended the corporate sponsors, public sector agencies and volunteers, who supported improvement projects across the hospital compound on Labour Day on May 25.

He told JIS News that the hospital selected several key areas for rehabilitation. “We specifically chose two main areas …the Outpatients Department (OPD) South waiting area and medical clinic as well as the eye clinic, ” he said. Additional activities included painting the security post and tree trimming.

Mr. Francis highlighted support from the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation, National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA), NCB Foundation, Jamaica Energy Partners and the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF). “The NCB Foundation did a total renovation of the eye clinic. They did painting, installation of new air conditioning units (AC),” he noted. The windows and main doors were also replaced and signage mounted for the clinic.

The KPH CEO informed further that Jamaica Energy Partners completed major painting works at the outpatient department while more than 50 members of the JCF assisted with painting activities throughout the compound.

Mr. Francis told JIS News that Jamaica Energy Partners invested more than $4 million in the rehabilitation works, while the NCB Foundation contributed over $3 million towards refurbishing the eye clinic.

He said that the upgrades support the Ministry of Health and Wellness’ focus on compassionate care.

“We want to ensure that every space where we are attending to patients and where our staff is dealing with persons who require service, it is in an environment that facilitates compassionate care,” he said. (more)

Mr. Francis stressed the importance of partnerships in improving Jamaica’s healthcare infrastructure, noting that continued corporate support remains critical to the hospital’s development. “At KPH, we are very grateful and this is what we want to see going forward; corporate sponsors coming on board, helping to build our nation’s intensive and critical care facility. We can’t do it by ourselves, and as the adage goes, many hands make work light,” Mr. Francis added.
