Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Honourable Olivia Grange has congratulated Paralympian Alphanso Cunningham on recording a season’s best of 19.49 in the men’s javelin throw F53 at the 2016 Rio Paralympics.

“What a great way to start these Paralympic Games with a season’s best effort from Alphanso in the javelin. Well done Alphanso and I look forward to Dana-Gaye and Shane competing in their respective events. Our athletes are giving of their best and we must always support them,” Minister Grange said.

Cunningham, who was the first member of Jamaica’s team to compete at the Rio Paralympic Games finished 5th  in the javelin F53/F54.

The other members of Jamaica’s team – Dana-Gaye Weller (club throw F51) and Shane Hudson (T46 400m) will compete next Sunday and Friday respectively.
