September 13, 2011

The Full Story

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat presents its compliments to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica and has the honour to request the latter's kind assistance in transmitting the following congratulatory message from the Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque to the Jamaican Athletics Team on their sterling performance at the 2011 International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAFs) World Championships in Daegu, South Korea.

BEGINS:

“On behalf of the Caribbean Community, I extend warm congratulations to the Jamaican Athletics Team on their sterling performance at the 2011 International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAFs) World Championships in Daegu, South Korea.

That performance was capped by a new world record in the 4×100 metres relay for men, a truly astonishing feat.  It followed the victory by Mr. Yohan Blake in the blue ribbon event of the 100 metres; Ms. Veronica Campbell-Brown in the 200 metres for women; and the irrepressible Mr. Usain Bolt in the men’s 200 metres.

These triumphs underline the depth of the country’s talent in the athletics field and demonstrate that the talent and abilities of Caribbean youth can make an impact in today’s competitive global arena.

The Caribbean Community shares in the pride and joy of the Government and People of its Member State, Jamaica, at their achievement in this global event."

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica the assurances of its highest consideration.
