Come October, the Companies Office of Jamaica will be accepting online payments from clients and will facilitate online filing of documents early in March 2008.
Minister of Industry, Technology, Energy and Commerce, Phillip Paulwell, who made the announcement during his contribution to the Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives on June 6, said that the initiative will eliminate the need to physically visit the office and “represents a user-friendly interface, hassle free and cost effective”.
“This development is yet another demonstration of our commitment to promote electronic commerce and the optimism facilitation of business,” he stated. The move follows on the implementation of Paperless Licence Regime by the Trade Board on June 1, to benefit importers.
“This regime totally eliminates the need for a client to visit the Trade Board’s office, when applying for an import licence,” said Mr. Paulwell.
