Cabinet received an update from the Minister of National Security, Hon. Peter Bunting, on the Mario Deane incident and the short-term measures being implemented to minimise the likelihood of a recurrence of such incidents, on Monday, August 18.

A Sub Committee of the Cabinet headed by the National Security Minister along with the Minister of Justice, Sen. Hon. Mark Golding, and other members has been established to develop a strategic response to the issue of treatment of persons in lock-ups and correctional facilities.

The National Security Minister is also to review, over the next few days, a revised Lock-Up Administration Policy, which he received this morning from the Acting Commissioner of Police.
