Newly installed Chairman of the Hanover Municipal Corporation and Mayor of Lucea, Councillor Sheridan Samuels, has called for collaboration and support from the political directorate, the business community and civil society in building the town and parish at large.
In his address at the swearing-in ceremony for the seven Councillors on March 7, in Lucea, Mayor Samuels said the electorate had spoken and it was time for cohesiveness.
Mayor Samuels thanked the electorate for their vote of confidence and pledged the Corporation’s service to the people.
“Your voices are the heartbeat of our democracy and we pledge to be the stewards of your aspirations and concerns. I urge you to be actively engaged in the governance of our Municipality, as it is through our collective efforts that we can effect meaningful change,” he said.
“I extend my sincere invitation for your support and collaboration. Our success as a parish depends on our ability to work together, transcending political affiliations and personal agendas in pursuit of the common goal. Let us unite in purpose, pool our resources and harness our collective expertise to address the needs of our constituents,” the Mayor added.
He listed among the achievements of the previous administration the rehabilitation of several roads in the parish, the renovation of the kitchen at the Lucea Infirmary and the drop-off centre for the indigent.
The Mayor also mentioned the ongoing celebration of the parish’s 300th anniversary, noting the opportunity it offers for showcasing the parish’s rich heritage.
Also attending the ceremony were Member of Parliament for Hanover Western, Tamika Davis, and other stakeholders.
