The Full Story

Supplies, valued at approximately $1.2 million, were presented to the Portland Infirmary by CARI-MED Limited, as part of a continuous programme of assistance to the facility.
The supplies, which included wheel chairs, commodes, walkers, bed pans, a microwave, antibiotic ointments and pharmaceuticals, were handed over by CARI-MED’s Manager for Business Development, Geta-Mae O’Sullivan, at a ceremony at the infirmary on Thursday (December 16).
Mayor of Port Antonio, Councillor Floyd Patterson, Secretary-Manager of the Portland Parish Council, Michael Morris, representatives of CARI-MED, members of staff and residents of the infirmary attended. The presentation was symbolic of the close relationship between the infirmary and CARI-MED, which adopted the institution two years ago.
Mrs. O’Sullivan said CARI-MED was pleased to provide the assistance, and gave an assurance that the company was fully committed to continuing the support it has been offering to the facility. Noting that the gesture has enabled CARI-MED to feel satisfied about giving back, she expressed the company’s gratitude to other organizations which supported the effort.
Mayor Patterson thanked CARI-MED for the assistance, adding that the gesture was exemplary of the spirit of goodwill associated with Christmas. He said the Council was appreciative of the effort, and is fully committed to working with the staff of the infirmary to provide the best care for the residents.
Head of the Infirmary, Matron Sharon Burke, thanked CARI-MED and gave an assurance that the gifts will be utilized to enhance the service to the residents.
