The Full Story

Cabinet has approved the Community Action for Rewarding Engagement (CARE) Programme, which will commence in September.

Minister without Portfolio in the Office of the Prime Minister with Responsibility for Information, Skills and Digital Transformation, Senator Dr. the Hon. Dana Morris Dixon, says the programme will benefit over 1,800 young people who are not in school or engaged in any form of training or employment.

She was speaking during a recent post-Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House.

Dr. Morris Dixon informed that the CARE programme will be spearheaded by the HEART/NSTA Trust, which will facilitate the participants’ enrolment and training at its institutions.

She further advised that the enrollees will receive a $13,000 stipend each week and a monthly $15,000 transport grant.

“[These] will allow them to do their training, and also enable them to earn some money while they are doing the training,” she further indicated.

Dr. Morris Dixon said preliminary work ahead of the programme’s commencement will be undertaken over the summer, adding that further details on the initiative will be provided shortly.
