The Full Story

The call for papers for the seventh International Conference on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in the Caribbean is now open.

Educators, researchers, practitioners, policymakers, industry leaders and students are being invited to submit abstracts examining the role of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in building resilience to climate change.

Prospective presenters are being reminded that abstracts must be submitted by December 30, 2026. Notification of acceptance will be issued on January 30, 2027, while full papers must be submitted by March 30, 2027.

The conference, which will be hosted by the School of Education at The University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona, will take place from May 19 to 21, 2027, at the Ocean Coral Spring Resort in Trelawny, under the theme ‘TVET: The Application of STEM Building Resilience for Climate Change’.

The Ministry of Education, Skills, Youth and Information, through a bulletin, stated that the event will provide a platform for regional and international experts, policymakers, educators and industry stakeholders to explore innovative approaches to technical and vocational education and training and examine strategies for strengthening workforce readiness in an era of climate change and rapid technological transformation.

The conference programme will focus on several critical areas, including the integration of STEM in TVET, industrial strategies and technologies that support climate resilience, the digitisation of TVET, the role of STEM in the regional mainstreaming of TVET, and sustainability in technical and vocational education and training.

TVET practitioners, educators, school leaders, students, researchers and other stakeholders are being encouraged to participate in the event, which aligns with the Education Ministry’s effort to modernise and strengthen Jamaica’s education and training system.

The conference will support Pillar five of the Ministry’s Transformation Agenda, which focuses on expanding and enhancing TVET to ensure learners acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies needed to succeed in an increasingly dynamic and technology-driven world.

Selected papers presented at the conference will be invited for submission to the ‘Caribbean Journal of Education & Development’, providing an opportunity for contributors to further disseminate their research and findings. Conference registration is now open, with the early-bird registration deadline set for March 31, 2027.

Interested persons may visit caribtvet.org for detailed information on conference strands, submission requirements, registration fees and other important dates.

Additional information may be obtained from the School of Education, UWI Mona, via email at mona-caribbeantvet@uwi.edu or by telephone at (876) 927-0221.

According to the Ministry of Education, Skills, Youth and Information, participation in the conference will provide valuable opportunities for collaboration, knowledge sharing and the exchange of best practices, while contributing to the continued advancement of TVET as a key driver of sustainable development, innovation and workforce readiness in Jamaica and the wider Caribbean.
