Cabinet Members Regret Sudden Passing of Russian Ambassador

Information Minister, Senator Burchell Whiteman has said that members of the Cabinet took note of the sudden passing of the Russian Ambassador to Jamaica, Igor Lebedev, during their weekly meeting at Jamaica House, yesterday (March 27).
Ambassador Lebedev, who was assigned to Jamaica in May last year, died last Friday, March 24.Minister Whiteman, who was speaking at the weekly post-Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House, noted that a book of condolence has been opened at the Russian Embassy at 22 Norbrook Drive.
He added that the Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Carlton Davis would also be sending a letter of condolence to the Ambassador’s widow, Olga Lebedev.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade has conveyed to the government and people of the Russian Federation, the sympathy of the Jamaican government and people,” he informed journalists.
Minister Whiteman commended the late Mr. Lebedev for being “very active in his relatively short time in Jamaica as Ambassador”.
