Cabinet on Monday, January 13, held the first session of a special two day Cabinet Retreat to settle the capital spending and Ministry priorities for the 2014/15 Fiscal Year.

In her charge to Ministers and the technical team, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of achieving growth and job creation through the Economic Reform Programme.

The Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce in its presentation emphasized the need to support small and medium sized businesses and work towards the creation of enterprise zones to foster industrial development so that Jamaica can take advantage of the opportunities from the logistics hub.

At a similar special meeting in December, Cabinet settled on the overall strategic priorities for the Financial Year 2014/2015 which include:

  • The maintenance of Fiscal Stability
  • The preservation of National Security and Justice
  • Infrastructural and Human Resource Development; and
  • Social Protection Programmes

The Cabinet will again meet on Tuesday, January 14, at which the other Ministries will present their priorities.
