Cabinet Awards Contracts for Construction and Upgrading of Schools, Anti-Retroviral Drugs

Cabinet has approved the award of three contracts for the construction and rehabilitation of a high school and two early childhood institutions.
A contract valued at $186, 982, 431 was awarded to SWC Woodwork and Construction for the building of additional classroom blocks and two classrooms at the Paul Bogle High School in St. Thomas.
In addition, KSA Engineering Consultancy will undertake construction and modification of the St. Richard’s Early Childhood Education Centre on Red Hills Road at a cost of $18, 589, 533 and will also handle the construction of the St. Catherine Early Childhood Resource Centre in Eltham Park, Spanish Town for $27, 973,603.
Cabinet also awarded contracts for the purchase of items for the school feeding programme. The contracts went to T Geddes Grant, Tridel Construction Company, Grace Kennedy, and Arms and Ammo Limited.
In the meantime, the HIV/AIDS Treatment Prevention and Policy Project also benefited, as contracts, valued at more than $98 million were approved for the procurement of anti-retroviral drugs.
The companies awarded were Aurobindo Pharma in the sum of $39, 444, 976; Hetero Drugs Limited in the sum of $15, 711,000; and Abbott Laboratories Limited in the sum of $43,000,000. The awards are provided under a grant from the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria for the implementation of a project to scale up HIV/AIDS treatment.
