Cabinet has approved the award of a three-year security service contract to King Alarm Limited, for the Ministry of Finance and Planning’s Heroes’ Circle and Shalimar Avenue locations.
The $76.1 million contract will cover two years, while the third year of the agreement is being negotiated.
Meanwhile, Cabinet has also approved the award of a contract to Sharecon Construction Limited for $78.36 million to expand the dormitory building (Garvey Hall) at the University of Technology’s (UTech) Papine campus in Kingston.
Minister with responsibility for Information, Senator the Hon. Sandrea Falconer, told journalists at Thursday’s, February 6, Jamaica House press briefing, held at the Office of the Prime Minister, that the university is expanding upwards and the existing building is being renovated to include more boarding facilities, kitchen, restrooms and dining room.
The works which will be carried out over seven months include demolition and alterations, reinforced concrete columns and wall, roof and window installation.
Cabinet also gave the nod to the award of a contract for $80.6 million to the same company to expand the student athletes housing facility at the campus.
“The expanded facility will include new dormitories, a kitchen, laundry area, washrooms, reception and multi-purpose areas,” she said.
Both contracts are being funded from UTech’s budget.
Additionally, Cabinet approved a US$975,000 contract to Industrial and Technical Supplies Limited for the supply and commissioning of three container handlers for the Kingston Container Terminal. The financing is being provided from the Port Authority’s 2012/2013 budget allocation.
