Cabinet has approved the award of a contract worth just over $16 million to Arima Engineering Company Limited, for electrical installation works in Denham Town under the Inner City Housing Project.
“It will provide infrastructure to take power, telephone and cable services from the various supplies and external connection points to the distribution points within each apartment within the block,” Information Minister, Senator Burchell Whiteman explained at yesterday’s (Jan. 16) post Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House.
“The Inner City Housing Project is part of an integrated strategy to improve the living conditions and the quality of life for residents in inner city communities, creating an environment for better housing, education and job creation,” Senator Whiteman added.
Meanwhile, Cabinet also approved the award of a contract in the sum of $18 million to W.G. Walters Construction Company to construct a two-storey four classroom biology laboratory block at Cross Keys High School in Manchester.
In addition, Cabinet approved the award of a $21 million contract to W.A. Reid Construction Company, for the construction of a two-storey four classroom block, which will also accommodate a biology laboratory at Iona High School in St. Mary. The same model will be adopted for both schools.
The construction is in support of the thrust to create additional places at the secondary level to meet the general increase in demand, as well as provide for the implementation of Universal Secondary Education.
