Cabinet has approved the Charities Policy and Procedures Guidelines for Gifts and Donations to the Ministry of Health.

This was disclosed by Minister of Education, Youth and Information, Senator the Hon. Ruel Reid during the post-Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House on June 29.

He said a policy needed to be formalised because of the numerous missions that contribute gifts and donations to Jamaica.

The Minister noted that Cabinet has also approved the establishment of a Diaspora Trust to leverage philanthropy and goodwill across the diaspora.

He pointed out that the Trust will link all government entities which receive charitable contributions.

Senator Reid said the Ministries of Education, Youth and Information; Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sports; and Health are to meet to develop a policy and report back to Cabinet for approval.

The group is to be chaired by the Minister of Health, Dr. the Hon. Christopher Tufton.
