Cabinet has given approval for the compulsory acquisition of approximately 1000 square metres of land in Greenvale, Manchester for the establishment of a basic school.
Information Minister, Senator Burchell Whiteman, making the announcement at yesterday’s (March 20) post Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House, said the acquisition of the property would provide a safe and enhanced learning environment for three to six-year old children in the low-income community.
The Information Minister said financing for the purchase of the property would be taken from the sale proceeds of government lands. It is also proposed that the basic school will be managed by the community/citizen’s association in the area.
