Cabinet has approved the award of a contract valued at $51.34 million for phase one of the Papine/Mona sewerage project.

The contract has been awarded to Surrey Paving and Aggregate Company Limited.

Information Minister, Senator the Hon. Sandrea Falconer, made the disclosure at a Jamaica House press briefing on December 9.

She noted that the project forms part of the National Water Commission’s (NWC) continuing development of sewerage treatment facilities serving the Papine/Mona area.

“This project will, among other things, involve the connection of the University of Technology (UTech) to the Mona Road sewer system.  Under this phase of the project, some 1.5 kilometres of PVC trunk sewers and sewer manholes from UTech’s south western boundary, to the existing manhole at the intersection with Mona Road will be constructed,” Senator Falconer said.

Work on the project is scheduled to commence this month and will last for 10 months. The contract is being financed from the NWC’s Capital Budget and by UTech.
