Cabinet Approves $46 Million Contract for Renovation of Basic Schools

Cabinet has approved the award of a contract valued at $46,411,603 to Garan-Tee Construction Company Limited, for the renovation of three basic schools in Trelawny.
Minister of Information and Development, Donald Buchanan, speaking at yesterday’s (April 23) post Cabinet press briefing held at Jamaica House, informed that the facilities to be renovated are the St. James and Steven James Basic Schools, as well as the Trelawny Resource Centre.
“We expect that Garan-Tee Construction Company Limited will be performing that exercise in a timely manner to ensure that these facilities are once again restored to full functionality,” said Mr. Buchanan.
Cabinet also approved two contracts in the sums of US$573,114 and US$313,466 to Barnett Metal and Fabrications Limited and V.G.C. Holdings Limited, respectively, to supply school furniture.
“This is to provide furniture for both our students and teachers in the school system. This is another of the steps, which are being taken by the government, to ensure that our schools are fully provided with furniture, and the relevant equipment to enhance our educational system,” informed Mr. Buchanan.
