The Full Story

Custos Rotulorum of St. Ann, Radcliffe Walters has encouraged business leaders to work towards cultivating a habit of excellence among their workforce in order to achieve success in turbulent times.
“Organisations should endeavour to create a workforce that will constantly and consistently go beyond the ordinary because of their personal commitment to excellence,” Custos Walters said.
He was speaking on behalf of the Governor-General, His Excellency the Most Honourable Dr. Patrick Allen, at the closing ceremony for the 27th Staging of the Jamaica Employers’ Federation (JEF) convention, which was being held at the Sunset Jamaica Grande Resort in Ocho Rios, St. Ann.
The convention, which started on Thursday May 21, came to a close today, and was held under the theme, ‘Succeeding in Turbulent Times: Partnership, Performance, Productivity’.
“Turbulent times have within them the seeds of destiny but realising the opportunities presented by these challenging times, require preparation, determination and skill.
What has been true in the past continues to be true today. Success favours prepared minds, willing hearts and hands. It also requires committed leaders and a prepared workforce,” he said.
He stated that employers needed to identify ways in which they can influence the expansion of technical and vocation training in Jamaica, especially at the more advanced level.
“In doing so you will be directly involved in creating the kind of workforce that will make your business grow and prosper. I believe that a paradigm shift in our approach to education will enable us to survive the turbulent times and effect the growth of our economy,” he said.
Turning to the importance of partnership, he pointed out that now is the opportune time for persons to work together toward restoring the fundamental, social and moral values of the society.
“Despite our many problems there is still a lot that is right with Jamaica. We should use this time wisely to fix the problems in Jamaica by using what is right about Jamaica. I believe we will achieve success in spite of the trying times but for this to happen we must seize the moment and get into action now for the sake of our nation,” he said.
