The Bureau of Standards Jamaica (BSJ) will be hosting its ‘Outta Road Tour’ public education campaign on Thursday (March 21) to create awareness about the services provided by the BSJ that support businesses in the tourism sector.
This information session will be held at the Hibiscus Lodge Hotel, Ocho Rios, commencing at 10:00 a.m.
The initiative is being implemented under the final leg of the BSJ’s ‘Committed to Quality and Standards’ campaign, which seeks to engage and forge meaningful relationships with stakeholders within the sector to enhance their business operations and tourism product.
Presentations will include standards targeted to the tourism sector, such as testing services (food, spa-related products, pool-water sanitation levels and construction materials), certification, consultation services for business support, and funding for testing services for suppliers of spa-related products.
Manager, Communication and Customer Service at the BSJ, Maxine Fagan, told JIS News that under the year-long campaign, which commenced in April 2023 and is scheduled to end in March this year, three business sectors have been targeted – food, construction and tourism.
“We are here to support business sectors across the board, but we feel that, primarily, we wanted to focus on these sectors because we know that these sectors are very integral in terms of the economic development of Jamaica,” she noted.
