BNS Donates $250,000 for Tertiary Education Assistance Through ‘I Believe’

The Scotia Bank Foundation on Thursday, May 15 presented a cheque for $250,000 to the Association of Community Based-organisations in Petersfield, Westmoreland as a contribution to the Frank Morgan Loan Programme.
The donation, which was made as part of Governor General, His Excellency the Most Hon. Sir Patrick Allen’s ‘I believe Initiative’ will assist needy students with their tertiary education.
In making the announcement, the Governor General said the contribution is the fruit of a growing partnership with private sector companies, such as the Bank of Nova Scotia.
He noted that the Association of Community Based-organisations in Petersfield was selected based on its far reaching impact and support for the ‘I Believe’ initiative at all levels.
In making the presentation, Executive Director of the Scotia Bank Foundation, Joylene Griffiths Irving, said the funds represent the company’s commitment to education and to partnership with ‘I Believe’.
“Scotia Bank is committed to the purpose and hopes that those who benefit from this loan facility will be able to achieve their goal of a tertiary education,” she said.
To date 10 persons have benefited from the Frank Morgan Loan Programme including Nadia Wilson, who recently completed tertiary level studies at the Sam Sharpe Teacher’s College in Granville, St. James.
Expressing gratitude on behalf of the beneficiaries, Ms Wilson said they remain committed to continue supporting the Association in its efforts to educate and inspire Jamaica through the ‘I Believe Initiative’.
