KINGSTON — The Bethel Apostolic Basic School, located on South Camp Road, in Kingston, has received educational supplies, including books and pencils, from the Anti-Corruption Branch of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).

Head of  the  Branch,  Assistant Commissioner of  Police (ACP), Justin Felice, who handed over  the supplies on September 7, at the school, told JIS News that the Bethel  Apostolic Church hosted their  church service  earlier this year, at which  they  made  a monetary donation.

"We thought that we should come back to the school and speak to the infants, tell them about the police, how friendly we are and how much they should rely on us to help them in growing up and be confident that they can come to the police ,” the ACP said.

"Our outreach programme is trying to change the perception of the JCF. The reality is, a lot of the JCF officers are very good officers, they are positive and professional in the way they perform their duties," he added.

Principal of the school, Edmond Ferguson, told JIS News said that the gesture  should enhance  the learning process at the institution." This will take the children to another level in their education," he said.

Mr. Ferguson said that children must be encouraged to engage with the police, “and we have to let them know that the police are their friends, and are here to protect them."

“Some persons have given them the wrong impression of the police, and this will help to bridge that gap," he added.

The 37 year-old institution with nearly 100 students and four teachers, is owned and operated by the Bethel Apostolic Church.
