The Full Story

Home owners could be moving into their new units at the Bernard Lodge Estate Development in St. Catherine by March next year.

Minister with responsibility for Housing, Dr. the Hon. Morais Guy has disclosed that the final engineering works are being done, and the infrastructure is being developed for the first two phases of the development.

“Very shortly the units will be put down. One of the sub-contractors in the project is already building the units to move them on site so as soon as that is ready some of those units will be there. We are hoping that by February, March people will be having possession of some of the houses,” Minister Guy disclosed, while speaking to journalists during an open house day for the Bernard Lodge Estates Development at the Housing Agency of Jamaica (HAJ) Caledonia Avenue offices in Kingston on Wednesday, August 14.

He noted that in addition to the houses, the area will be able to accommodate facilities, which will enable it to become a complete development.

“We have space for commercial activities, we have a police station, we have allocated land for a basic school, for primary and a secondary complex…We want to assure our potential clients and all our customers…that if you invest or buy into one of our schemes, you are not just buying into a house, you are buying into a complete development,” he added.

Located in St. Catherine, the Bernard Lodge Estates development is approximately five minutes drive from Spanish Town Square. It is bounded by Highway 2000 to the South, in the vicinity of Lime Tree Grove, Quarry Hill and March Pen Road.

The Bernard Lodge Estates Development will comprise 1, 584 housing solutions, which will be built in five phases. The development comprises studios and one-bedroom units.

Each studio unit will measure 267 square feet and one bedroom units will be 370 square feet. The average lot size will be 3,300 square feet.

They will be expandable and will be outfitted with laminate countertops, stainless steel kitchen sinks, UPVC French windows and slab roofs.

Phases three, four, and five, are slated for completion by mid-2016.
