The Full Story

Bandana returns with a bang for ‘Emancipendence’ 2015 with the reintroduction of festival fashion under the theme: ‘Bandana wid Denim, Ketch di Fashion Riddim.’

Speaking at a JIS Think Tank last Friday (July 24), Executive Director at the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC), Delroy Gordon, said the reintroduction of festival fashion “will not only present a more coordinated approach to the look and feel of Independence, but also provides an opportunity for the fashion industry to generate income and showcase their skills”.

“We are very pleased so far with the kind of response that it has generated. Merchants and fabric dealers are buying into the fashion theme by stocking and advertising the Bandana and jeans fabrics and local designers, seamstresses and tailors are doing a fantastic job,” Mr. Gordon noted.

He is encouraging members of the public to be creative and utilise the larger print bandana (Madras), in their designs rather than the commonly used red and blue fine plaid.

Fashion collections from Uzuri, Natoya Doulatt, Courtney Washington, Shades of Africa and Mutamba will be on display at the ‘Fashion Greets Music’ event at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre on August 3.

The musical segment of the extravaganza will feature One Third; Ewan Simpson and the band In2Nation; and winner of this year’s festival song competition, Lee-Roy ‘Ancient Priest’ Johnson, with his song ‘Celebration Time’.
