The Atlanta/Montego Bay Sister Cities Committee has donated 50 electronic beds valued at US$100,000 to the Cornwall Regional Hospital in St. James.
Vin Martin, Honorary Consul to Atlanta and chairman of the committee, made the presentation to the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, Everton Anderson, at the facility on March 31.
Mr. Martin said the donation was in keeping with the committee’s ongoing outreach programme to the Montego Bay community.
“I take pleasure in officially turning over these beds to the Cornwall Regional Hospital for use in your providing of health care to the citizens of Montego Bay . we have been trying for many years to find an appropriate way to bring Cornwall Regional Hospital into our mission and I think this presentation will be the beginning of a wonderful partnership”, he said.
He informed that the beds were acquired through MEDSHARE, an organization in Atlanta, which sourced medical and other equipment across America, and made them available to needy groups and countries.
Mr. Anderson expressed appreciation for the gift, noting that the beds had come at a “most opportune time”.
“We are very grateful for the gift . I would like to thank all concerned for this gift and trust we will continue to work together to preserve health care in our country”, he added.
In his remarks, Mayor of Montego Bay, Councillor Noel Donaldson, noted that the gift represented a continuation of the work that the committee has been doing over the years, to assist the Montego Bay community.
“On behalf of the city of Montego Bay, I .commend you for the tremendous work you have put in over these many years and look forward to your continued support to the people of Montego Bay”, Mayor Donaldson said.
