Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, announced the appointment of Dr. Nigel Clarke as Ambassador Plenipotentiary for Economic Affairs. The Public Services Commission confirmed the appointment last week and Dr. Clarke subsequently received his instrument of appointment from His Excellency the Governor General. Ambassador Clarke is expected to represent Jamaica’s interests with bilateral, multilateral and international partners and to promote investment and trade.

In commenting on the appointment the Prime Minister said “Dr. Clarke has already been a valuable asset to Jamaica in its relationship with key international partners, as an advisor to the Prime Minister, and as a director on several public boards. The Government of Jamaica looks forward to his continued contribution in this capacity.”

Reflecting on his appointment, the new ambassador said, “I am honored by this appointment and pledge to serve Jamaica faithfully.”

Dr. Clarke has extensive local and international business experience and began his career as a banker at Goldman Sachs in London. He has previously served in the Upper House of Parliament as a Senator and his record of public service also includes serving as Chairman of the HEART Trust and as a director of various public bodies. A former Rhodes, Commonwealth and Jamaica Independence scholar, Dr. Clarke holds D. Phil. and M.Sc. Degrees in Mathematics and a B.Sc. Degree in mathematics and computer science from the University of the West Indies.
