The Full Story

Public-sector workers who wish to apply for tertiary grants for their children have until 5:00 p.m. on August 30 to do so.

The grants, which cover tuition only up to $150,000 for the current academic year, are made available to public-sector workers who are permanently appointed or temporarily employed with at least two years’ continuous service and contract workers with at least two years’ continuous service under any type of contract.

Persons applying must fill out an application form and submit the requisite documents, inclusive of a TRN, a job letter, an acceptance letter or transcript if you are a returning student. When applying, a parent must have his or her child’s birth certificate to indicate that it is indeed their child, along with the TRN of both parent and child.

The application forms are available on the website of the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service via a link and must be done and submitted online, as no physical applications will be accepted at the Ministry’s Heroes Circle office.

A verification form (also found on the Ministry’s website) must be completed and submitted to the Human Resource representative at your organisation, along with the required documents, to be checked off and verified by the Human Resource Management Department. The intended recipient of the grant must not be older than 25 years and must have a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Parents who have more than one child at the tertiary level will only be eligible to receive funding for one child.

To apply for the grant and get more information, persons can visit the scholarship section of the website of the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service at https://www.mof.gov.jm/scholarships.
