Alley Bridge, Clarendon to be Assessed by NWA Technical Team

By: , July 17, 2024

The Full Story

The National Works Agency (NWA) has been instructed to take immediate steps to assess the Alley Bridge in southern Clarendon.

The instructions have come from the Minister with responsibility for Works in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation, Robert Morgan.

Minister Morgan reports to Prime Minister, Andrew Holness who has requested a report on the state of the bridge, given the impact on the southern section of Clarendon.

The Alley Bridge links Lionel Town to several other heavily populated southern Clarendon communities.

These include Race Course, Kemps Hill and Banks.

The bridge was one of the structures damaged during the passage of Hurricane Beryl.

The NWA has been instructed to assess the nature of the damage, determine a short-term fix, including costs, as well as to propose a permanent solution.

The Alley Bridge is classified as a High Ford, which allows regular flows of the Rio Minho below its structure.

The concrete structure, which forms a part of the main road, however, gets flooded in bouts of heavy rainfall, cutting off scores of residents.
