TORONTO — The relaunch of the Air Jamaica brand in Toronto, Canada, took place recently, with Air Jamaica's Manager of Sales, Will Rogers, giving an overview of the decision to maintain the brand alongside Caribbean Airlines, which has bought the airline.

He explained that the new vision  is not to destroy a brand that is well known and well endeared, not only by the people of Jamaica but all over the world.

“You will notice that we have kept the same colours with just a little tweaking.  The Air Jamaica brand is going to be even stronger.  With all the amenities and benefits that Caribbean Airlines has to offer us, we’ve combined both of them and come up with one airline, and we expect to grow from strength to strength,” said Mr. Rogers.

Other announcements made by Mr. Rogers included the return of Air Jamaica’s hub to the Sangster Montego Bay airport, the return of Air Jamaica to London, England, later this year and eventually Chicago, Baltimore and California, and by 2012 the “famous Boeing 787 Dreamliner” will be plying the London route.

Calling the re-launch a new day for Air Jamaica, Jamaica’s Consul General to Toronto, Mr. George Ramocan, said the partnership between the two airlines has brought about a new entity, which will deliver a stronger, better airline service to the Caribbean.

“We feel a sense of excitement here in Canada.  The entire community of Jamaicans in Canada, feel a sense of appreciation for this conclusion among the partners,” said Mr. Ramocan, noting that Air Jamaica has been a star in the aviation industry for the past 40 years.

The Consul General implored the audience to make Air Jamaica their airline of choice when they visit Jamaica.

“The experience is different.  It’s as if you are already in Jamaica because of the feeling, the cultural setting and the service.  It is truly an airline with a difference,” he said.

Noting that the Caribbean region cannot rely solely on foreign airlines to provide air linkages for nationals and visitors, Trinidad and Tobago’s Acting Consul General, Ms. Kathy Radoo, said Air Jamaica and Caribbean Airlines are there to ensure that the best interests of the people of the Caribbean are protected and served.

“In this age of globalisation, where large corporations are swallowing up small businesses, it is heartening to see that our brands can stand up and take their place on the world stage, and properly represent our beautiful islands,” said Ms. Radoo.

Highlights from the relaunch gala, which took place in Kingston, recently, were shown with excerpts from Prime Minister, Hon. Bruce Golding; Trinidad and Tobago’s Minister of Works and Transport, Hon. Jack Warner; and Chairman of Caribbean Airlines, Mr. George Nicholas III.

Miss Jamaica Universe, Yendi Phillips, who is Air Jamaica’s Ambassador, served as Master of Ceremonies  for the event, which was attended by Jamaicans, Trinidadians and travel agents.
