The Full Story

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Agro-Investment Corporation (AIC), Vivion Scully, says the entity has secured more than $4 billion in new agricultural investment leads.

He noted that these leads were generated at last year’s Jamaica Agri-Business Investment Forum.

“At Agro Invest, our mandate has been clear. It is to attract new investment into agriculture and to create the conditions for commercial production to thrive. That means organised agro parks, reliable irrigation structured land allocation and direct support so that farmers can produce consistently and competitively,” he said.

The CEO was addressing Saturday’s (February 21) Agriculturalist Impact Awards at The Summit in Kingston.

Mr. Scully said the establishment of agro-parks is critical to the structured development of the agricultural sector.

“Today, our agro-parks network spans over 12,000 acres under management, and this supports over 800 registered farmers across the island,” he reported.

Mr. Scully pointed out that Jamaica’s agricultural sector is entering a new era defined by structure, investment and scale.

“This is about real land, real farmers and real production. We do not have enough irrigated land to facilitate renewed interest in agriculture, but we are working on it,” he stated.

Importantly, Mr. Scully informed that the AIC is working to provide additional irrigated land to stimulate renewed interest in agriculture.

“The [Agriculture] Minister [Hon. Floyd Green] has given us a charge to place an agro-park in every parish; that is going to keep us busy for the next three to five years. That is structured production happening in real time,” he said.

Mr. Scully indicated that this mandate is being advanced through the launch of the Parnassus Agro-Park in Clarendon, marking a major step forward for AIC and Jamaica’s agricultural sector.

“This is hundreds of acres positioned for organised cultivation and with irrigation support. Parnassus represents confidence in the sector… confidence that Jamaica can increase our domestic output, reduce imports and, of course, meet local demand,” he said.

The CEO noted that the Amity Hall/Bridge Pen Agro-Park, which is scheduled for completion in June 2026, will be announced shortly.

“That footprint will add acreage to the sector and more opportunity for more production,” Mr. Scully said.
