‘Agrofest 2024’ Promises Fun for the Entire Family

Kingston and St. Andrew ‘Agrofest 2024’ promises to be a fun-filled event with several entertaining activities for the entire family, while showcasing the best of agriculture in the Corporate Area.
The event, being staged by the Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS) will take place on Saturday, May 25 at the Hope Gardens complex of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining, starting at 7:00 am.
President of the Kingston and St. Andrew Association of Branch Societies (ABS) of the JAS, Albert Green, said the 28th staging of ‘Agrofest’ will feature a farm queen competition, Jamaica 4-H Clubs speech contest, concert, and a JAS ‘Eat Jamaican’ cook off.
There will also be a domino contest, horticulture display, high school exhibit, a small ruminant display, a kids’ village and a grease pig competition.
Mr Green, who was addressing the launch of the event at the Rural Agricultural Development Authority’s (RADA) St. Andrew Parish Office on Friday (May 3), said that farmers will have produce on sale, and patrons will be able to visit information booths mounted by sponsors and other partners.
“We will still have the farmers market and a lucky patron will win a weekend for two at any Sandals Resort,” he added.
Minister of Agriculture Fisheries and Mining, Hon. Floyd Green and Custos of Kingston, Steadman Fuller, are expected to be in attendance.
Executive Director of the Jamaica 4-H Clubs, Peter Thompson, pledged the organisation’s full support for the event and the work of farmers in Kingston and St. Andrew.
The theme for ‘Agrofest 24’ is ‘Grow what we eat…Eat what we grow.’
