The Full Story

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining will be investing more than $60 million to procure agricultural drones with spraying, seeding and surveillance capabilities.

The investment also includes compact farm tractors, planters for seeds and tubers, and harvesters.

Portfolio Minister, Hon. Floyd Green, made the disclosure during his 2025/26 Sectoral Debate presentation in the House of Representatives on Tuesday (May 27).

“We will be distributing six high-powered tractors with implements to enhance land preparation in targeted production zones. Additionally, we will be purchasing six walk-behind tractors equipped with ploughs, planters and harvesters to assist small acreage farmers who are operating on difficult terrain,” he said.

The Minister also highlighted the provision of two onion-potato hybrid harvesters to enhance efficiency in root crop production zones, along with the acquisition of motorised soil augers to support yam farmers, especially those in challenging landscapes.

“We are embarking on our most intensive mechanisation drive ever. This is a new era of agriculture,” he declared.

Meanwhile, Mr. Green noted that since 2018, significant investments have been made in the Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA), including the acquisition of 11 new tractors and five backhoes.

The Minister also informed the House that six additional tractors have been ordered for 2025, two of which arrived in early May, with the remaining four expected by the end of July.

Mr. Green pointed out that these will bring RADA’s tractor fleet to a total of 22.
