The Full Story

Greater use of diverse media platforms is deemed critical to ensuring the timely dissemination of accurate information on Government policies and programmes.

This is according to Minister without Portfolio in the Office of the Prime Minister, Hon. Robert Morgan.

He was speaking during the Jamaica Information Service’s (JIS) Strategic Planning Meeting at Jamaica House, on Friday (October 28).

Mr. Morgan, who has responsibility for Information, noted that “our biggest threat is misinformation and disinformation.”

“There is so much misinformation and disinformation in the public space now, that people are struggling to figure out who to trust,” he pointed out.

The Minister underscored that the Government’s communication network is, therefore, “one of the most important institutions in the society”, in addressing this issue.

In this regard, Mr. Morgan lauded the JIS on its work, noting that the agency continues to thrive on its reputation of factual news output.

He added that the JIS’ embracing of media convergence will help to “confront this epidemic of misinformation and disinformation.”

In addition to the traditional platforms of radio, television and print, information disseminated by the JIS can be accessed on the agency’s – www.jis.gov.jm or social media pages: Twitter @jisnews, Instagram @jisvoice, Tik Tok @jisvoice_1 and Facebook @jamaicainformationservice.
